Ingredients: Beets

A root vegetable with leafy green stems. Beets grow in a variety of colors including purple, golden, orange, white, and pink. Beets taste earthy and a bit bitter.

Wild beets are native to the seacoasts of Mediterranean Europe. Both red and white beets were further developed in Italy from the original seacoast selection.

Beetroots were not cultivated for consumption until 1542 in either Italy or Germany.

Sugar beets are an important agricultural crop, providing approximately 30% of the world’s refined sugar.
