A tiny, bright blue cone, often referred to as a berry, that grows on trees and shrubs. Juniper berries are slightly fruity and piney in flavor.
Juniper grows wild throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
Juniper isn’t easy to grow in the Southern Hemisphere, but recently an Australian gin company successfully started to grow juniper for berries on Kangaroo Island.
Juniper wood is often used to smoke salmon.
