Ingredients: Rutabaga

A root vegetable. The exterior is often brown, white, and/or purple, with a white interior. Rutabagas have a buttery and slightly sweet flavor when cooked. 

Thought to have originated in Russia or Scandinavia.

Rutabaga was introduced to England and Scotland from Holland in the 17th century. 

Rutabagas and turnips were the first carved jack o’lanterns before Europeans were introduced to the pumpkin.
