Ingredients: Star Anise
The fruit of a petite evergreen tree (Illicium verum), used as a spice. Fresh star anise is green, but it turns brown once dried. It is somewhat similar in aroma to licorice and can be used whole or ground in a variety of recipes.
Originated in southeast China and northeast Vietnam.
It’s believed that an English sailor brought star anise to Europe in the 16th century.
Star anise is one of the main ingredients in an anti-viral drug used to treat and prevent influenza A and B.
