A fruit that is typically orange-red but can be found in an array of colors. They are juicy, acidic, and have edible seeds inside. 

Northwestern South America and Central America.

Spaniards took tomatoes to Europe in the 16th century. 

In the 16th century, tomatoes gained nicknames including “love apple,” “golden apple,” and “Peruvian apple.”
