This is a recipe, and holiday staple, of my family since my great grandmother. Every generation since has made these cookies, forming different colors and shapes. My great grandmother passed in December of 2019, and this is the first year of not making her butter cookies without her. It's also the first year I've made them by myself. Still, whenever I bite into one I'm teleported back to my childhood. Surrounded by my loved ones.
