Family Story
My Gram, Sadie Rowe Fitzgerald, left her family farm on PEI, Canada, in 1906 to work as a maid in the Hyde Park section of Boston. She later moved to Pepperell where she farmed with her husband Michael and raised a family. These rolls have been on the Thanksgiving table in my family for over one hundred years.
Directions
1 Step
Add all to warm milk and water in order given. Add enough flour to make of kneading consistency. Knead until smooth. Let rise - covered. Punch down with knife. Let rise again. Roll out, cut with round cutter. Load knife with butter and fold circle of dough over knife. Place in greased pan giving them room to grow. Let rise again. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
2 Step
Remove from oven and rub butter over the tops of the rolls.
